Climate and nature

Brenzone and the surrounding area enjoy a quite mild climate, with rather high average temperatures. Rainfalls are concentrated mainly in the spring and autumn months. This is due to the mitigatine effect of the great water mass of Lake Garda. The lake is surrounded by a belt of evergreen vegetation, such as olive trees, cypresses, oleanders, holms oaks and laurel trees, as well as fig and almond trees.

At about 300-400 m above sea-level grow the first woods of mixed deciduous trees; Between 500 and 900 m reigns the sweet chestnut tree, while several hazel bushes blossom in unexploited meadows. The Alpine belt with Norway spruce, larch and Scots pine reaches up to 1600 metres above sea level. The area surrounding Brenzone is also rich in different animal species, particularly as regards the micro fauna: there are almost one thousand species of butterflies, some of which live only on Mount Baldo, as well as various kinds of beetles and insects.

Among the few bigger animals there are some birds such as ptarmigans, black grouses, capercaillies (in the corries) and golden eaglesto be found. Mammals include roedeers and chamois( recently re-introduced), foxes, beech martens and badgers.

Some of the most common rodents are marmots, edible dormice, various kinds of squirrels and many more. Wolves and bears used to live here up until 1800, while adders, common buzzards and choughs are still widespread.
